The 2012 ABMA Fall Meeting was held September 24-25 at the Hilton Suites/Magnificent Mile Hotel in Chicago, IL. The meeting included a joint reception and dinner with the Bearing Specialist Association (BSA) which provided an opportunity for our members to connect with colleagues, enhancing and building strong industry relationships.

Prior to the general meeting activities, various committees met and charted a course to 2013 initiatives, including the associate council who now has representatives from 13 supplier companies. During the business meeting on Tuesday morning, ABMA President Scott Lynch outlined the highlights of 2012 while also providing direction for the year ahead. Additionally, the business meeting included three presentations from ABMA’s newest associate members: REM Surface Engineering, Sullivan Steel Service and TATA STEEL. They briefly introduced their company to the membership and outlined the services they provide to the bearing industry.

Following the business meeting, William Strauss, Senior Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, kicked off the general sessions. Mr. Strauss shared his perspectives on the U.S Economy and his outlook for the manufacturing sector. He is the author of the monthly Chicago Fed Midwest Manufacturing Index and organizes the Bank's Economic Outlook Symposium and Automotive Outlook Symposium. His research papers include analysis of the manufacturing sector, the automotive sector and business cycles. This session was open to all ABMA and BSA members and based on initial feedback, the attendees found his presentation was very valuable.

Marybeth King, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), concluded the general sessions on Tuesday afternoon. She addressed the threats of cyber security and shared insights on cyber crime trends, how to be prepared for cyber attacks and what to do if you are targeted. The presentation focused on Corporate America and what countermeasures and best practices can be used to mitigate these threats.

In addition, the meeting concluded the tenure of two long-time ABMA members: Daniel Nebesio, Nachi Technology and Ollie Martins, Standard Locknut, LLC. Over the years, these two individuals have made significant contributions to the association and have emerged as leaders in the bearing industry. We sincerely appreciate their dedication to ABMA and wish them the best on their future endeavors.

The ABMA 2013 Annual Meeting is taking place April 25-27 in Carlsbad, CA, right outside San Diego. More information regarding the meeting will be available on our website in the coming weeks.
