On Wednesday, May 29, ABMA hosted its first webinar of a series titled Using Industry Standards to Calculate Fatigue Life. The webinar provided attendees with an introduction to bearing fatigue life calculation as set forth in industry standards. Moderated by Bimal Nathwani, Application Engineering Manager at NSK Corporation, the webinar served as an interactive platform for attendees to ask and learn about industry standards, fatigue failure mechanisms and other concepts such as dynamic equivalent load, dynamic load rating and fatigue limit. The basic life and modified life calculation methods were also addressed.

The webinar was instructed by Dave Sirrine who is a veteran Application Engineering Manager from NSK Corporation. With over twenty years of experience in the bearing industry, Dave was able to provide a unique perspective around the topic. At the conclusion of the webinar, attendees were able to identify industry standards that govern bearing fatigue life calculation, understand the differences between the various fatigue life calculation methods, understand how dynamic load rating is used in fatigue life calculation and perform basic bearing fatigue life calculations. The Q&A session generated valuable discussion around fatigue life which provided the attendees with real world examples they can apply to their day-to-day responsibilities.

The next webinar of the series, Importance of Surface Topography, will be held Monday, June 24 at 2:00PM EST. This will be an introductory overview that will cover basics of surface topography and how it affects the performance of bearings. Included are nomenclature & definitions, measurement methods, effects on lubrication, surface wear and fatigue. The webinar will be moderated by Jim Oliver, SKF USA Inc and presented by Silvio Vasconi, SKF USA Inc.
